Motivational Speech Part 1 of Many

2–3 minutes

Most of us now have jobs that limit our mobility to walking to the few steps it takes to walk to the kitchen and back.  As kids and teens, we would run around all day, around at recess, in the class room, to and from home, without even noticing it to be exercise.

In our late 20s, our jobs have more and more started to become stationary and our efforts to keep active need to be more conscious and deliberate than ever before.

Why do I mention this?  Because after a long day of mentally exhausting work in a black “ergonomic” chair in front of the computer, we often come home and plop down on the couch as if we were actually were physically tired.

We get tired simply because our body has gotten used to the immobility of our jobs and we are actually tired from the lack of movement. Fight the feeling! Don’t let your body dictate laziness!

Let’s start simple:

When you get home, wake your body up! Put on a sports bra (because most of us are not made to jump without proper support!) and do 15 jumping jacks.  I guarantee you will feel exhausted right after. It will feel like you were carrying bricks and trying to do the same thing.  But wait 5 minutes.  You will notice that the tiny bit of movement and exercise will have actually gotten your blood pumping a little quicker, moved a little more oxygen through your lungs and into your bloodstream.

Now utilize that energy!  Don’t sit down to watch TV!  Even a few little exercises will start your body and muscles moving.  Make a list of simple exercises or find a circuit online, really anything. Then do a few reps during commercials, or as you watch.

Here’s a starter sample of something I recommend. This one is super easy! Short, easy exercises and definitely beginner level.  Do this 4 times the first week and I bet you will even start to enjoy it and feel better about sitting in front of the TV.

Squats x 10 (because who doesn’t like a plump booty?)

Lunges x 10 each leg

Plank x 30 seconds

Sit ups x 10

Leg raises x 10

Repeat 3 times.
